John Cosby and David Gallup Plein-Air Workshop
"Painting the Channel Islands"
Okay, for years now you've all been pleading me to take you painting on the Channel Islands. After much time and consideration, I've found a way to make that happen in a workshop no attendee will ever forget.
Twenty lucky artists (and some non-painting spouses) will join legendary coastal artist John Cosby and myself for a plein-air workshop experience of a lifetime. "Conception", the custom-built live-aboard dive ship built by Truth Aquatics, will take John, me, a staff of six (including chef, by the way) and thirty artists to paint on location in the Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary. Attendees will learn to work in the challenging environs of the islands and coastal waters therein. Kayaks will be provided, the snorkeling is amazing, and certified divers will be encouraged to join John and David in exploring the kelp forests and reefs of what Jacques Cousteau called "The Greatest Cold-Water Diving in the World".
Fees: $1,500 per artist, includes kayaks, great food, and accommodations. Non-painting spouses are welcome for an additional $900 each.
Too much to write here, it needed it's own page. Get the whole scoop HERE.
Classes:
Schedule:
Mondays, 10am-2pm- Advanced Painting
For the painter who has most issues resolved with draftsmanship
and for whom the use of oil paints is comfortable. Every-Other week is
plein-air, and we work from a live model once per session. Eight week block
of classes is $600, or drop-in classes are $100 each.
Tuesdays, 11am - 3pm- Master Class
For the highly accomplished artist seeking greatness and facility in all aspects of
outdoor and studio work, with and without figures. Call David to apply, (805) 675-5385.
Wednesdays, 11am-2pm- Intermediate Painting
For the artist with at least a couple of years experience who may be new to oils or is still
struggling with values, draftsmanship or other core abilities. Studio work will cover still-life,
re-creations of master works, working from photos, and studio finishing of plein-air work
with or without reference.
Cost is $75 per class, or $400 for an eight-week session. Call or email with questions.
Wednesday Night Figure Painting, 7pm-10pm
Light instruction (some prefer none, some prefer more, you decide). I paint with the class
and offer suggestions to those who would like some guidance. $30 drop-in, or $100 for a
block of four consecutive sessions. For an additional $5 per class, you may use my supplies
(brushes, paints, easel, etc.) and bring nothing to class.
Semi-private and Private studio and plein-air classes are available as well. Contact David with questions on these or
any classes. David's Cell/Studio line is (805) 657-5385, or use the "Contact" link to the left of this page.
