Landscape United Nature Artists (LUNA) is a non-profit group of nationally recognized plein-air artists whose goal it is to raise awareness of the world's most pristine ecosystems, and to further the public awareness of representational painting in the modern age. It is our intention to do this by going to pristine ecosystems and producing a body of work which captures the landscape as it stands today. These paintings will be shown in museum venues along with educational information on the location, and any threats facing it.
For our first venue, we have selected Yellowstone National Park. We chose Yellowstone because it was the world's first National Park, and it is a perfect example of what can be preserved for future generations by those who have the vision and determination to do so. Also, Yellowstone makes a great kickoff venue because it was the paintings of Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt which were used to persuede congress to set aside this spectacular ecosystem for the enjoyment of the people. In the same way, we hope to use our paintings to inspire reverence for nature and a passion for conservation.
