Ladyface Mountain

In spring of 1999 I came across a painting of Ladyface Mountain, and decided that I, too, would like to paint there. I called the artist to ask where this mountain was, and which direction you had to look to see the face. As you might imagine, when he said "West," I could hardly contain my joy. The bright yellow squiggle in the sky is actually a contrail from a jet, not a real cloud. On some evenings these contrails covered the sky, and lit up wiggley stripes in neon colors. On most nights I couldn't be sure whether they were contrails or clouds.
