Fading Light at Point Conception

In early February I went to flower fields near Lompoc, but each time I found a place to paint the light would give out or a tractor would come and harvest my subject before my very eyes. So I set out to Point Conception, where I eventually resigned myself to standing in mud up to my shins to catch the orange sun's last rays. It remains the longest day I have ever spent on one sunset painting.
