Golden Silence

One of the moments of painting I will never forget happened during this sunset. Just eight feet from my easle as I stood painting, a red-tailed hawk dropped out of the sky and caught it's dinner. Raptors have always fascinated me, and this is the closest I have ever been to one in the wild. He stayed for about thirty seconds before taking his prey and flying into the sunset.
